The Larry Middleman project taught me that fourteen days for an entire app where I’m still learning the capabilities of the device is not a good idea (it was, in fact, a terrible idea). That hyper-aggressive timeline worked well with my first project, Hacks, because the idea for that app had been cooking in my brain for over a year. So we are making some adjustments to the work flow with some help from one of my all-time favorite pull quotes from Inside the Actor’s Studio ⬇️
Make decisions quickly - But be open and lucid enough, and fluid enough, to change your mind if you prove yourself wrong.1
Inside the Actor’s Studio, Russell Crowe
From 14 days to 40 days
FIRST fourteen days: Ideating on the product & technical discovery.
SECOND fourteen days: Feature-complete with ALL the rough edges.
THIRD and final fourteen days: Sand off the rough edges, polish, & ship.
What you get from this
Less talking at you and more talking with you.
Subscribers will now have the opportunity to voice input and shape the product themselves since it will be built in real time in front of them vs after the fact.Bi-weekly updates with deeper insights.
Thechicken nuggetapp making process is a four-steps backwards and one-step forward type of journey. With slightly more time to research, I can create more intuitive products while documenting the more absurd and entertaining aspects of software development.Paid subscribers get … still no clue.
You tell me! An app of your own? Pixel Pushers merch? An all-access pass to every premium feature in every app built here? What makes it worth it for you?
Anyways, enough blabbering, here’s the first entry in this new work flow! ⬇️

The bottom line is, as Scorsese said, "Man, you don't get anywhere until you make a decision, so start making decisions quickly," you know? But be open and lucid enough, and fluid enough, to change your mind if you prove yourself wrong. Okay? And be cool about that, while you're discovering things, you know? Look for the nuggets of gold, man, you know? Don't just make a decision, and then-- if you find yourself wrong, and you do not go back on what you've done, you're just undercutting the whole process, and you're kidding yourself. You shouldn't be doing the gig if you're gonna-- fall in love with things like that. You know, serve the character, not yourself.
